Integrate Klarna into your online store using Adyen's acquiring infrastructure for secure, compliant transactions.
Klarna has partnered with Adyen to offer an integrated payments solution for online Partners. This setup allows Klarna to be added as a payment method to your store.
Adyen acts as an acquirer and processor, managing Partner onboarding, compliance, and settlement, while Klarna provides the end-customer payment experience, including services like Pay Now, Pay Later, and Financing.
Partners can choose between two paths when integrating Klarna through Adyen: Core integration and Advanced integration. Both options connect your site to Klarna’s powerful payments network via Adyen, but they serve different needs and offer different customer experiences.
The Core Integration path is ideal for Partners looking to enable Klarna quickly without significant development effort. In this model, all checkout and payment interactions are handled by Adyen, who then routes the transaction to Klarna.
You still benefit from Klarna’s key services such as:
However, this setup does not expose Klarna-specific customer-facing features like Express Checkout or promotional messaging. Klarna works as a secure, robust payment option, but remains largely invisible to the customer.
This is the best choice for Partners who want a low-effort, high-reliability solution without requiring deeper customization or branding.
Klarna is supported through various Adyen integration types, including API-only integration, drop-in and components for web and mobile platforms, or third-party plug-ins. The integration journey varies depending on which type you have in place.

To add Klarna to your Adyen integration, follow these steps:#Log into your Adyen Customer Area.
All the heavy lifting is done and you will receive a Klarna activation email within a minute.
Depending on your Adyen integration, you may need to perform some additional steps to make Klarna available in your checkout. Please note that line items are required for payments request towards Adyen to initiate a Klarna session. For more details, please refer to Adyen's Klarna integration guide.
For partners aiming to offer a tailored, high-converting checkout experience, Advanced Integration brings Klarna closer to the customer through its Web SDK.
With this setup, Klarna’s frontend components become part of the Partner website. This unlocks:
Klarna Express Checkout is currently not supported through Adyen's integration.
These features not only streamline the checkout process but also enhance trust and engagement, potentially increasing conversion and cart size. Although this model requires more technical implementation, the payoff is a branded, responsive, and deeply integrated Klarna experience.
It’s well suited for partners focused on user experience, customer retention, and revenue growth.
