From 1 September 2026, Klarna issues certified electronic invoices for the service fees charged by its French branch.
France requires electronic invoicing for business-to-business transactions from 1 September 2026. To meet this requirement, Klarna issues a certified electronic invoice for the service fees you pay to Klarna.
This change applies to fee invoices only. Your settlements and payouts continue as they do today.

Does this apply to you?

Invoicing entity determines scope
Whether this change applies depends on which Klarna entity invoices you, not on where you operate. A partner based in France can be out of scope.
Check the Klarna entity shown on your Klarna fee invoice.

What changes for you

From 1 September 2026, the electronic invoice is the legal VAT invoice for the service fees you pay to Klarna.
What that means in practice depends on how Klarna charges your fees. Both setups are covered by this change.

If your fees are deducted from your settlement

You receive your payout net of fees. Until now you received no separate invoice for those fees, and the settlement report was your only record of them.
From 1 September 2026 you also receive an electronic invoice covering the deducted fees. This is a new document for you. Use it for VAT recovery in place of the settlement report.
The way you are paid does not change. Fees continue to be deducted from your settlement exactly as before.
The electronic invoice is a record of fees that have already been deducted from your settlement. It is not a new charge and it does not require payment.

If your fees are invoiced separately

You receive your payout in full and pay your fees against an invoice from Klarna.
From 1 September 2026 that invoice is issued as a certified electronic invoice. It is the same invoice you received before, in the new certified format required by French regulation, and you continue to use it for VAT recovery.
The amounts and your payment terms do not change.

Your settlement report

The settlement report remains available and is unchanged.
From 1 September 2026, use it for payout reconciliation. For VAT on Klarna fees, use the electronic invoice.

What you receive

Each fee invoice is issued as two files:
  • A certified PDF, in the format required by French regulation.
  • An XML file, which you can import into your accounting or bookkeeping system.
Klarna reports the invoice to the French tax authority for you. You do not need to file or forward either file.

How the invoice is delivered

The electronic invoice is sent by email to the invoice contact registered on your French merchant ID. If no invoice contact is registered, it is sent to the administrator on that merchant ID.

If both an invoice contact and an administrator are registered, only the invoice contact receives the email. The administrator is not copied.
The invoice will also become available for download in the Merchant Portal.

What you need to do

No action is required for this change to take effect. We recommend that you:
  • Confirm that the invoice contact on your French merchant ID is up to date. If you have no invoice contact, confirm the administrator instead.
  • Check that your accounting process can receive and archive both the PDF and the XML file.
