How merchants in Belgium can advertise Klarna credit products using pre-approved copy and the CCD2 disclosures that apply from 20 November 2026.
22 min read
These guidelines explain how merchants can advertise Klarna's credit products in Belgium. You may use Klarna's pre-approved marketing copy and disclosures exactly as shown on this page.
The disclosures on this page apply from 20 November 2026, when the revised Consumer Credit Directive (CCD2) applies in Belgium.
Integration requirement
You are legally responsible for the advertising you publish.
Klarna does not provide legal advice. If you are unsure whether your marketing complies with applicable laws, seek independent legal advice.
Merchants who publish non-compliant marketing may be required to remove or amend it. Repeated or serious violations may result in removal from Klarna.
How these guidelines work
Use pre-approved copy (no approval required)
If you use the pre-approved marketing copy and the disclosure shown for that line, no further approval is required. You may publish immediately. Klarna's On-Site Messaging is also pre-approved. Klarna will update those assets before 20 November 2026.
No modifications to approved copy or disclosures are allowed. Do not add "interest-free", a rate, or an instalment amount to a line that does not already contain it. Changing the wording can change the disclosure you must show.
Klarna will audit your website
Klarna will audit your website from time to time using automated means to ensure compliance with these requirements. We will notify you if we discover any discrepancies between approved messaging and disclosures. Any failure to remedy identified issues can result in your immediate suspension from further use of Klarna as a payment method on your website.
What is CCD2?
CCD2 is the revised EU Consumer Credit Directive. Its main change is that short, often interest-free credit, including Pay in 3 or Pay in 30 days, is treated as formally regulated consumer credit. Longer-term financing was already covered by the previous directive.
CCD2 regulates Klarna as the credit provider. You are offering Klarna as a payment method. You do not need to do credit checks or present pre-contractual information.
The updated rules are in Book VII of the Code of Economic Law, articles VII.3, VII.63/4, VII.64 and VII.65, and apply to credit agreements concluded on or after 20 November 2026.
What you need to change
Before 20 November 2026, update any advertising that mentions a Klarna credit product:
Use only the copy in the tables below, with the disclosure in the same row. Use the Dutch table for Dutch advertising and the French table for French advertising.
Use the fixed warning for the language of the advertisement. Do not paraphrase it.
If a line says the credit is interest-free, or states a rate or an amount to pay, add the example shown for that line. Belgium has not adopted a short-form exception.
Klarna's checkout and On-Site Messaging will be updated automatically by Klarna. The following guideline is only if you are not using Klarna's OSM and automated integrations.
Pay in 30 days is a default product in Belgium. Pay in 3 is available only on request. Financing is not offered, so this page has no financing copy.
What is a risk warning, and when do you include it?
A risk warning tells the shopper that credit has a cost. In Belgium the wording is fixed. Use the sentence that matches the language of the advertisement:
In English: Be careful, borrowing money also costs money.
Include it on every advertisement that presents a Klarna credit product, including interest-free Pay in 3 and Pay in 30 days. A line that only names Klarna, and does not mention paying later, instalments, or financing, does not need it.
Place the warning with equal prominence, directly next to the advertisement. Do not hide it in a footer, a terms page, or a smaller type that is difficult to read. A Royal Decree may set the character size. There is no separate required graphic on this page.
Why an example is required
Where an advertisement states an interest rate or figures for the cost of the credit, it must include the borrowing rate and the charges, the amount of credit, the APR, the term where it applies, the cash price and any advance payment, and the total amount payable and the instalments where they apply. Saying that credit is interest-free is a statement about cost, so those lines need an example as well as the warning.
The example is based on the average credit amount for that product. The cash price, the advance payment, the total, and the instalments may be left out of a non-visual advertisement, or placed one click, scroll, or swipe away on a screen, only in specific and justified cases.
The approved Pay in 30 lines do not say "interest-free" and do not state a cost, so the warning is enough. If an advertisement does say that Pay in 30 is interest-free, add this example: Be careful, borrowing money also costs money. Example: cash price €100, no down payment, 1 payment of €100 within 30 days. Amount of credit €100. Term 30 days. Fixed borrowing rate 0%, APR 0%, no charges. Total amount payable €100.
Other restrictions
All advertising for a credit product is prohibited where it:
1.
incites a consumer who cannot meet their debts to take out credit;
2.
encourages the consumer to apply for credit by suggesting that the credit will improve their financial situation;
3.
states that current credit agreements or credit registered in databases have little or no bearing on the assessment of a credit application;
4.
wrongly suggests that credit results in an increase in financial resources, is a substitute for savings, or may increase the consumer's standard of living;
5.
emphasises the ease or speed with which the credit can be obtained;
6.
encourages the regrouping or centralisation of current credits, or indicates that current credit agreements play no role, or only a subordinate role, in the assessment of a credit application;
7.
states that a discount is available only if credit is taken out; and
8.
offers grace periods of more than three months for the repayment of instalments.
Special requirements in Belgium
Two further Belgian rules:
The warning wording is fixed in Dutch and in French. Do not paraphrase it. Use the table for the language of the advertisement.
Publish one example per type of credit, based on the average credit amount for that product.
Approved copy — English
Use the disclosure in the same row. Do not edit, shorten, or paraphrase either column. For a Dutch or French advertisement, use the local table. The warning in that table is the one that must be published.

1.
een consument die zijn schulden niet kan nakomen, aanzet om krediet op te nemen;
2.
de consument aanmoedigt krediet aan te vragen door te suggereren dat het krediet zijn financiële situatie zal verbeteren;
3.
stelt dat lopende kredietovereenkomsten of in databanken geregistreerd krediet weinig of geen invloed hebben op de beoordeling van een kredietaanvraag;
4.
ten onrechte suggereert dat krediet leidt tot een toename van financiële middelen, een vervanging is voor sparen, of de levensstandaard van de consument kan verhogen;
5.
de gemakkelijkheid of snelheid benadrukt waarmee het krediet kan worden verkregen;
6.
de hergroepering of centralisatie van lopende kredieten aanmoedigt, of aangeeft dat lopende kredietovereenkomsten geen rol, of slechts een ondergeschikte rol, spelen bij de beoordeling van een kredietaanvraag;
7.
Bijzondere eisen in België
Twee verdere Belgische regels:

1.
incite un consommateur qui ne peut faire face à ses dettes à contracter un crédit ;
2.
encourage le consommateur à demander un crédit en laissant entendre que le crédit améliorera sa situation financière ;
3.
indique que les contrats de crédit en cours ou le crédit enregistré dans des bases de données ont peu ou pas d'incidence sur l'évaluation d'une demande de crédit ;
4.
suggère à tort que le crédit entraîne une augmentation des ressources financières, tient lieu d'épargne, ou peut augmenter le niveau de vie du consommateur ;
5.
met l'accent sur la facilité ou la rapidité avec laquelle le crédit peut être obtenu ;
6.
encourage le regroupement ou la centralisation de crédits en cours, ou indique que les contrats de crédit en cours ne jouent aucun rôle, ou seulement un rôle accessoire, dans l'évaluation d'une demande de crédit ;
7.
