How merchants in Italy can advertise Klarna credit products using pre-approved copy and the CCD2 disclosures that apply from 20 November 2026.
15 min read
These guidelines explain how merchants can advertise Klarna's credit products in Italy. You may use Klarna's pre-approved marketing copy and disclosures exactly as shown on this page.
The disclosures on this page apply from 20 November 2026, when the revised Consumer Credit Directive (CCD2) applies in Italy.
Integration requirement
You are legally responsible for the advertising you publish.
Klarna does not provide legal advice. If you are unsure whether your marketing complies with applicable laws, seek independent legal advice.
Merchants who publish non-compliant marketing may be required to remove or amend it. Repeated or serious violations may result in removal from Klarna.
How these guidelines work
Use pre-approved copy (no approval required)
If you use the pre-approved marketing copy and the disclosure shown for that line, no further approval is required. You may publish immediately. Klarna's On-Site Messaging is also pre-approved. Klarna will update those assets before 20 November 2026.
No modifications to approved copy or disclosures are allowed. Do not add "interest-free", a rate, or an instalment amount to a line that does not already contain it. Changing the wording can change the disclosure you must show.
Klarna will audit your website
Klarna will audit your website from time to time using automated means to ensure compliance with these requirements. We will notify you if we discover any discrepancies between approved messaging and disclosures. Any failure to remedy identified issues can result in your immediate suspension from further use of Klarna as a payment method on your website.
What is CCD2?
CCD2 is the revised EU Consumer Credit Directive. Its main change is that short, often interest-free credit, including Pay in 3 or Pay in 30 days, is treated as formally regulated consumer credit. Longer-term financing was already covered by the previous directive.
CCD2 regulates Klarna as the credit provider. You are offering Klarna as a payment method. You do not need to do credit checks or present pre-contractual information.
Legislative Decree 212/2025 amends the Consolidated Banking Act, articles 122(5-bis) and 123. The updated rules apply to credit agreements concluded on or after 20 November 2026.
What you need to change
Before 20 November 2026, update any advertising that mentions a Klarna credit product:
Use only the copy in the tables below, with the disclosure in the same row.
Use the warning on this page.
If a line says the credit is interest-free, or states a rate or an amount to pay, add the example shown for that line. The Bank of Italy has not yet used the power to waive items for short interest-free credit, so the full example applies.
Klarna's checkout and On-Site Messaging will be updated automatically by Klarna. The following guideline is only if you are not using Klarna's OSM and automated integrations.
Pay in 3 is a default product in Italy. Pay in 30 days is available only on request. Financing over 6 or 12 months, at a fixed TAN of 17,60% unless your agreement sets another rate, is available only where it has been requested for managed merchants and where it is in your agreement.
What is a risk warning, and when do you include it?
A risk warning tells the shopper that borrowing has a cost. In Italy it must be clear and prominent on every credit advertisement. Use this wording:
Attention! Credit has a cost.
Attenzione! Il credito ha un costo.
Include it on every advertisement that presents a Klarna credit product, including interest-free Pay in 3 and Pay in 30 days. A line that only names Klarna, and does not mention paying later, instalments, or financing, i.e. cost of credit, does not need it.
Place the warning with equal prominence, directly next to the advertisement. Do not hide it in a footer, a terms page, or a smaller type that is difficult to read. There is no required graphic.
Why an example is required
Where an advertisement states an interest rate or any figure for the cost of the credit, it must include the rate and the charges, the total amount of credit, the TAEG, any compulsory ancillary service that is not in the TAEG, the term, the cash price and any advance payment, and the total amount payable and the instalments. Saying that credit is interest-free is a statement about cost, so those lines need an example as well as the warning.
Keep the TAEG at least as prominent as the claim that the credit is interest-free.
The approved Pay in 30 lines do not say "interest-free" and do not state a cost, so the warning is enough. If an advertisement does say that Pay in 30 is interest-free, add this example: Attention! Credit has a cost. Example: cash price €300, no down payment, 1 payment of €300 after 30 days. Total amount of credit €300. Term 30 days. Fixed TAN 0%, no charges, TAEG 0%. Interest: € 0. Total amount payable €300.
The approved financing line does not state a rate or a monthly amount, so it needs the warning only. If an advertisement also states the cost of financing, add the example at the end of the English tables. That example is the 12-month illustration at a TAEG of 17,60%. Use it only when the agreement is at that rate. If your agreement states another rate, recalculate the instalments and the total. Do not publish the 17,60% figures for a different rate.
Other restrictions
It is prohibited to advertise credit products that:
a) encourage consumers to apply for credit by suggesting that credit would improve their financial situation;
b) state that existing credit agreements or credit registered in databases have a minimal or no influence on the assessment of a credit application;
c) falsely suggest that credit results in an increase in financial resources, constitutes a substitute for savings, or can improve the consumer's standard of living.

Come funzionano queste linee guida
Altre restrizioni
È vietato pubblicizzare prodotti di credito che:
a) incoraggiano i consumatori a richiedere un credito suggerendo che il credito migliorerebbe la loro situazione finanziaria;
b) affermano che i contratti di credito esistenti o il credito registrato in banche dati hanno un'influenza minima o nulla sulla valutazione di una richiesta di credito;
